God Is My Rock, Part 1

Psalm 92:15.

…He is my Rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

That word Rock in this passage means figuratively, refuge.  It means Mighty God or Mighty One.

God is our refuge, a God of Might and Power.  We can depend on Him to keep us in His Righteousness and Power.  We must look to Him to keep us in these unpredictable and disturbing times.  He alone is our steadfast, immovable Source.  We must have confidence in Him and His care for us as His children.

God alone is our Rock.

For our study on God our Rock, let’s define Rock as it appears in the Old Testament and New Testament and in the dictionary.

In the Old Testament there are two words for God our Rock.  One Hebrew word means Refuge, Mighty God, Mighty One.  The other Hebrew word means Lofty, Fortress or Stronghold.  In the New Testament, the word means rock, something solid and stable and immovable.  In the 1828 Webster Dictionary, the scriptural meaning of rock is defense, means of safety, protection, strength, asylum, firmness, a firm or immovable foundation.

Keep these definitions in mind as we study each scripture.

Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

This scripture is self-explanatory and a good one to confess today.  Why don’t we all make this our confession today!

Confession:

The Lord is my Rock, my Lofty One.  He is my Fortress, my place of safety.  He is my deliverer and my God.  He is my strength.  God is the One in Whom I will trust.  He is my buckler, my protective shield.  He is the horn or power of my salvation or deliverance and safety.  He is my High Tower, the place where I am seated with Him far above all principalities and powers.
