Mark 14:53-72<\/p>\n<p>The band and captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus and bound Him.\u00a0 They brought Him first to Annas, father-in-law of Caiaphas who was the high priest that year.\u00a0 Caiaphas is the one who said that it was expedient that one man die for the people. \u00a0(Little did he know how he was prophesying Jesus\u2019 death for all of our iniquities.).<\/p>\n<p>Then they took Him to the hall of the high priest Caiaphas.\u00a0 With him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.\u00a0\u00a0 Simon Peter and John followed Jesus at a distance to the palace of the high priest.\u00a0 There Peter denied Jesus three times<\/p>\n<p>The chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put Him to death and found none. \u00a0There were many who bare false witness against Him, but their witness did not agree.\u00a0 There were certain false witnesses who said that they heard Him say that He would destroy the temple that is made with hands and within three days build another made without hands.\u00a0 But there was still no agreement between their testimonies.<\/p>\n<p>The high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus:\u00a0 \u201cDo you answer nothing?\u00a0 What is it which these witness against You?\u2019\u00a0 Jesus did not answer at all.<\/p>\n<p>Again the high priest asked Him:\u00a0 \u201cAre You the Christ?\u201d\u00a0 Jesus answered him:\u00a0 \u201cIf I tell you, you will not believe, and if I also ask you, you will not answer me, nor let me go.\u00a0 I am He and you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.\u201d\u00a0 Then they all said:\u00a0 \u201cAre you then the Son of God?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 He said to them:\u00a0 \u201cYou say that I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then the high priest tore his garments and said:\u00a0 \u201cWhat need have we for more witnesses?\u00a0 You have heard His blasphemy.\u00a0 What need have we of further evidence?\u00a0 What is your decision?\u201d\u00a0 And they all condemned Him as being guilty and deserving of death.\u00a0 They spit on Him, blindfolded Him, and struck Him with their fists and said to Him:\u00a0 \u201cProphesy to us, Christ.\u00a0 Who is he that struck you?\u201d\u00a0 Again they hit him with blows of their hands.<\/p>\n<p>Early in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council.\u00a0 Then the whole assembly of them got up and bound Jesus and led Him from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment, Pilate\u2019s house.\u00a0 They delivered Him to Pontius Pilate, the Governor.\u00a0 They did not go into the judgment hall so that they might not become ceremonially unclean and might be fit to eat the Passover.\u00a0 (Once again, how little they knew that they were already unclean with their sins.)<\/p>\n<p>Pilate went out to them and said:\u00a0 \u201cWhat accusation do you bring against this Man?\u201d\u00a0 The chief priests accused Him of many things.\u00a0 They said:\u00a0 \u201cIf He were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.\u00a0 We found this fellow perverting the nation and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.\u201d\u00a0 Then said Pilate unto them:\u00a0 \u201cTake Him yourselves and judge and sentence and punish Him according to your own law.\u00a0 The Jews answered:\u00a0 \u201cIt is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jesus Before Jewish Authorities &nbsp;
